Fury as ITV sinks Sir Steve Redgrave reality show after rowing team failed to qualify for Henley
Andrew Chapman of the Daily Mail on Sunday wrote of the decision by a TV company not to show the program featuring novice rowers learning to race. Probably because they failed to qualify by a few seconds for a prestigious race. In my books that is not the main purpose of rowing, in fact I delight in leisure and working craft of more substantial design. If there is racing to watch I would rather watch Skiff and Punt racing. Yes it's the novelty factor. There's so much Olympic sport on TV it can get boring unless "your" team is contending. I found this news rather sad as at the moment I am offering funding to clubs for rowing and kayaking. I would especially like to help those forming new clubs, anywhere in the world.

Lots of local boat hire services that also organise adventure trips
The Outdoor Show at the NEC was a great surprise. So many entry level craft of all types including a modern coracle. The inflatable double canoe looked a sensible design at Ł300. It has tough material and inflates large. (Not so the play Ł15 single canoe!) I am hoping to list a lot more UK companies that offer to organize trips and hire boats out. If you go with a group it may be safer as they should know the particular river, or sea.
